This wikiHow teaches you how to download a YouTube video to watch offline on a computer, phone, or tablet. If you're a paid subscriber to YouTube Premium, you can easily download videos for offline viewing in the YouTube app. If not, you'll need to use a converter like OnlineVideoConverter to turn the stream into a downloadable file.

Open YouTube on your phone or tablet. If you pay for a subscription to YouTube Premium (formerly known as YouTube Red), you can easily download videos to watch offline.^[1] Start by opening YouTube, which is the red square icon with a white triangle inside on the home screen (iPhone/iPad) or in the app drawer (Android).

Tap the Download button. It's a gray circle containing a down-arrow hovering over a white line, just beneath the video.

Tap the desired video quality. The options may vary depending on the video.
- If you'd like the app to remember your selection for future downloads, check the box next to "Remember my settings."

Tap OK . This begins downloading the video at the selected size and quality. Once the video is downloaded, a blue and white check-mark will appear beneath it.^[3]

Navigate to your Library to watch a video when you're offline. Once you're disconnected from the internet, viewing the video is easy. Just tap the Library tab at the bottom-right corner of YouTube, and then tap the video.

Navigate to a video that you want to watch offline. Click the name of any video at YouTube.com that you'd like to download.

Copy the URL for the YouTube video. Highlight the entire URL, and then press Ctrl+C (PC) or ⌘ Command+C to copy it to the clipboard.

Select a video format from the "Format" menu. It's right below the blank in which you pasted the URL. Select your desired video format from the "Video" menu on the right side of the list. Most modern video players support all of these formats.

Click Start . It's the orange button below the menu. A "Preparing your conversion" animation will appear. Once the conversion is complete, a "Download" link will appear.
- If you receive an error, it's usually because you have a web browser plugin (such as an ad-blocker or other privacy-blocking tool) preventing the website from working. Disable any plugins that block parts of websites, reload the page, and then try again.

Click Download . It's a blue button near the top-center part of the page. This opens the "Save" dialog box on your computer.

Click Save to download the video. The converted YouTube video will download to your computer. Once the download is complete, you can watch the video by double-clicking the file name.

Download Documents by Readle from the App Store. This is a free app will allow you to easily download files (such as videos you've converted) and view them on your iPhone or iPad. Though you can access the converter site in the regular Safari app, you'll want Documents to complete the download so you can easily find and view the video file. To download Documents:

- The video file will download by default as a .mp4 file, which will play without issues on your iPhone or iPad. If you want to change the format to something else, choose your desired format from the "Format" menu.

- By default, the file will save to the Downloads folder in the Documents app. Don't change this location—this is how you'll be able to watch the video without running into restrictions.

Tap the Downloads icon. It's the down-arrow with a red number at the bottom of the screen. A list of files you've downloaded with Documents will appear, including the video you just downloaded.
